Liya Kebede (* 3 January, 1978 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) is an Ethiopian model.
She was discovered while she Lycée Guebre Mariam visited and taught a French agent. After graduating from high school she went to France and later to New York City. She had her breakthrough as Tom Ford for the Herbst/Winter-2000-Modeschau committed by Gucci. From there, they ran regular fashion shows in New York, Paris and Milan. She was on the front page of the leading fashion magazines, such as in various editions of Vogue. They photographed ad campaigns for GAP, Yves Saint Laurent, Victoria's Secret, Emanuel Ungaro, Louis Vuitton, Tommy Hilfiger, Revlon, Dolce & Gabbana and Escada. In 2003, she was the new face of Estée Lauder, as the first color model ever. For the treaty to be three million U.S. dollars received.
She had small roles in the films The Good Shepherd and Lord of War - Merchants of Death.
Since 2005, she has worked as a UN special ambassador for the World Health Organization.
